@coolboymew@shitposter.world I had a huge thread on my last instance talking about how twitter/tiktok encourages ppl to get into show/hobbies with only a shallow understanding; who want to be considered fans when all they did was read a wiki or a recap vid.
Just for the sake of it being popular or some kind of FOMO.
These are the ppl who I am talking about. These are also the people who will have the mouth-breather takes and cause discourse.
But holy shit that mouth breather. Just don't fucking watch anything if you gotta watch it like that
@weeble @coolboymew@shitposter.world this is why the narrator recaps every 2 minutes in the chimera arc
for people like him
@Kirai @coolboymew@shitposter.world Everything in HxH is done with intention. Missing even a single minute takes awawy from the masterpiece.
@weeble @coolboymew@shitposter.world okay I was losing my mind at the end of the chimera arc though
the narrator was too much
@weeble @coolboymew@shitposter.world WDYM!!!
@Kirai @coolboymew@shitposter.world I have a latinx fan whomst is of course a big Dragonball fan. I got him to watch HxH and at first he liked the first few arcs and loved the phantom troupe arc but started getting annoyed once we started the chimera arc.
He got mad at the narration and there wasn't enough fighting but by time he got to the end he loved it. Now he's obsessed with HxH. He's a even bigger fan than I am lol.
He got it.
I can finish 2 series in one night and then quench my thirst for a few months.
Here, I just saved 6 hours over his queer speedrun strats. Also he should be tarred and feathered for that 'productivity keyboard' alone.

@coolboymew@shitposter.world FOMO and brainrot. Consuming for the sake of consooming.
Can you truly enjoy a meal if you scarf down the entire plate in 2 seconds?
@theorytoe@ak.kyaruc.moe @coolboymew@shitposter.world Me skipping the boring parts then going on twitter to complain that the plot was nonsensical and rushed.
What I dont get is if Anime is paced to slow for you, just read the manga. You could get through it so much faster if your goal is to speed run it.

@rain@melonbread.dev @coolboymew@shitposter.world >I think anime and TV is a waste of time
Speedruns anime and TVJust say you don't care for this stuff and get an actual productive hobby like cooking or wood work.
It's like he's trying to find the fastest way to swallow a pill he doesn't need to take.
I've watched it twice and thought it was okay, it's quality varies wildly frrom incredible highs and lows and remarkable speed. It's really stuck in my mind for that reason. I've been trying to read it but I don't think there exists a good translation. The official is obviously wrong in the way only official translations ever are, and every fan translation I've found has been different flavors of bad.
@coolboymew@shitposter.world @theorytoe@ak.kyaruc.moe I knew a guy who had to delete his MAL cuz he got addicted to trying fill his list and complete everything.
It feels like some of these ppl might have some kind of addictive personality disorder.
The twitter thread just genuinely confused and angered me. I really think this is a product of corpos completely monetizing the Internet and making attention/popularity a currency and utterly frying ppl's dopamine.
Like I make fun Star Wars soys and ppl who legally marry fictional characters, but the idea of someone's interests being dictated by Twitter's trending and mindless consumption rather than genuine passion is much more dystopian and soulless to me.
@weeble@fedi.bungle.online @coolboymew@shitposter.world
At least the most weeb thing about him is that he overworks himself just like a Japanese businessman ββ
It's irritating how he frames his inability to properly enjoy media in general as "productive." He'll use a tool designed to make Youtube slop bearable on high-effort, finely animated and written animes, and he's proud of that. ββ
@weeble @coolboymew This is peak consumer. He should kill himself.
I got a furry to play games by telling him it had characters he could nut to
Dude, i started to find anime boring and i stopped watching
There's definitively a type of people who clearly overdosed, can't take it anymore, for whatever reasons, yet just won't fucking fuck off
You can see this on /a/ and other elite anime places "Bro this seasons sucks, like every seasons, but I'm only watching 2 shows, only the ones that has nothing but little girls in it" when we've been in an anime golden age for a few years now, or you can see the same shit in Resetera and co, the "urggh, gamers" bullshit
To be fair, there is usually not that much content in a shounen, so you might as well skip it
Then again, you watch shounen for the fights, and if you are gonna skip those, might as well just not watch it altogether
@coolboymew @weeble @Morghur They would fuck off if there was a alternative identity for them to take. Imagine living your whole life as a weeb with posters, figurines, body pillows, tens of thousands of hours of shows watched.
An incredibly huge investment fallacy. It's inertia!
https://vid.puffyan.us/watch?v=n1z6umwBs5I
In many cases i also think there are trendchasers and people with FOMO, but i think It has to do more with retardos latching to a fandoms looking for and identity rather than a community
Completely different thing here
I only fast forward the "previous episode" parts. Dude, I don't have a life, the previous episode happened an hour ago I still remember it fine.
The only things I watch normally on 2x speed are sports. Football, track and field, formula 1 etc are slow paced and the commentator is still very legible at 2x speed (unless it is a woman. For some reason women's voices don't work well with 2x speed in mpv). Ice hockey is better at 1x speed, because it is so fast paced.
@weeble
@coolboymew@shitposter.world @billiam@shitposter.world @Kagekokoro@bae.st I think even the faults should be seen as it part of the anime experience, but this is meant to be closer to the manga so this is different.
Shounens and some media can def have filler/padding but that's a conclusion someone comes to after watching something first. These ppl will do this with shows they never seen but even stuff they're only mildly interested in so they can force themselves to finish it.
It's just that One Piece, instead of introducing a crazy amount of half filler, like Naruto did, it follows the anime, but extremely slowly with a crazy amount of time saving bullshit
does this even qualify as gatekeeping it seems almost tautological
@coolboymew and @weeble, I mostly don't watch anime because it's mostly just still frames with some interpolation in between, but I do rewatch movies in my collection quite often and 3x to 6x speed is pretty comfy when I wanna feel the vibe of a movie again.
@cnx@awkward.place @coolboymew@shitposter.world wtf does feel the vibe even mean? Just say your attention span is fried
@coolboymew@shitposter.world @cnx@awkward.place I rewatch cool/impactful scenes all the time but that's diff from watching an entire movie on 3x speed.
@cnx@awkward.place @coolboymew@shitposter.world Also the point of the thread isn't just to shit on ppl who watch shit on 2x speed, but mainly how a growing number of ppl like this (who can't even bother to watch media as intended) want to engage with the fandom and shit up communities.
