@coolboymew@shitposter.world I had a huge thread on my last instance talking about how twitter/tiktok encourages ppl to get into show/hobbies with only a shallow understanding; who want to be considered fans when all they did was read a wiki or a recap vid.

Just for the sake of it being popular or some kind of FOMO.

These are the ppl who I am talking about. These are also the people who will have the mouth-breather takes and cause discourse.

@weeble I've seen avid anime fans says they watch some stuff at x2 speed and it's like why, just don't fucking watch at that point

But holy shit that mouth breather. Just don't fucking watch anything if you gotta watch it like that

@weeble @coolboymew@shitposter.world this is why the narrator recaps every 2 minutes in the chimera arc
for people like him

@Kirai @coolboymew@shitposter.world Everything in HxH is done with intention. Missing even a single minute takes awawy from the masterpiece.

@weeble @coolboymew@shitposter.world okay I was losing my mind at the end of the chimera arc though
the narrator was too much

@Kirai @coolboymew@shitposter.world I have a latinx fan whomst is of course a big Dragonball fan. I got him to watch HxH and at first he liked the first few arcs and loved the phantom troupe arc but started getting annoyed once we started the chimera arc.

He got mad at the narration and there wasn't enough fighting but by time he got to the end he loved it. Now he's obsessed with HxH. He's a even bigger fan than I am lol.

He got it.

@weeble @coolboymew 2x speed is superior

I can finish 2 series in one night and then quench my thirst for a few months.

@Hyperhidrosis @weeble yeah, quench your thirst of cum

@coolboymew @weeble With girl cock

@weeble @coolboymew bro what the fuck

@Hyperhidrosis @weeble @coolboymew you can watch it at 5x speed and finish more series per might

@mischievoustomato @weeble @coolboymew anything after 2x isn't enjoyable

@coolboymew @weeble >skips the boring character and worldbuilding dialogue just to watch the fights
Here, I just saved 6 hours over his queer speedrun strats. Also he should be tarred and feathered for that 'productivity keyboard' alone.
youchu.be/watch?v=UUuOjKKwJR8

@coolboymew@shitposter.world FOMO and brainrot. Consuming for the sake of consooming.

Can you truly enjoy a meal if you scarf down the entire plate in 2 seconds?

@weeble jesus christ

@theorytoe@ak.kyaruc.moe @coolboymew@shitposter.world Me skipping the boring parts then going on twitter to complain that the plot was nonsensical and rushed.

@weeble @theorytoe I remember a picture of a twitter dude or something that self-admittedly watched S1 of Spy x Family on the side or something and then asked if Loid actually knew Anya had psychic powers

@weeble @Kirai @coolboymew First half of Yu Yu Hakusho was fucking lit but the second half drags so bad that I'll probably never watch hxh

@poastoak @weeble @Kirai

>Not watching HxH

HxH is worth watching for the exam and phantom troupe arc alone imo

@weeble @coolboymew after watching this I have murder on my mind

@weeble
What I dont get is if Anime is paced to slow for you, just read the manga. You could get through it so much faster if your goal is to speed run it.

@weeble @coolboymew I want to kill this kike

@weeble @coolboymew Fake wrestling fans do this too. They'll watch a montage or a ten second clip and then claim to be some kind of authority on why a match was good or bad.

@rain@melonbread.dev @coolboymew@shitposter.world >I think anime and TV is a waste of time

Speedruns anime and TV
Just say you don't care for this stuff and get an actual productive hobby like cooking or wood work.

It's like he's trying to find the fastest way to swallow a pill he doesn't need to take.

@coolboymew @weeble @Kirai @poastoak
I've watched it twice and thought it was okay, it's quality varies wildly frrom incredible highs and lows and remarkable speed. It's really stuck in my mind for that reason. I've been trying to read it but I don't think there exists a good translation. The official is obviously wrong in the way only official translations ever are, and every fan translation I've found has been different flavors of bad.

@coolboymew@shitposter.world @theorytoe@ak.kyaruc.moe I knew a guy who had to delete his MAL cuz he got addicted to trying fill his list and complete everything.

It feels like some of these ppl might have some kind of addictive personality disorder.

The twitter thread just genuinely confused and angered me. I really think this is a product of corpos completely monetizing the Internet and making attention/popularity a currency and utterly frying ppl's dopamine.

Like I make fun Star Wars soys and ppl who legally marry fictional characters, but the idea of someone's interests being dictated by Twitter's trending and mindless consumption rather than genuine passion is much more dystopian and soulless to me.

>he's not animemaxxing at 20x
ngmi

@weeble @coolboymew sorry I only want to be considered a fan of something if I can jack off to them 😭

wait a second, that nose.

@weeble@fedi.bungle.online @coolboymew@shitposter.world
At least the most weeb thing about him is that he overworks himself just like a Japanese businessman
neofox_wink

It's irritating how he frames his inability to properly enjoy media in general as "productive." He'll use a tool designed to make Youtube slop bearable on high-effort, finely animated and written animes, and he's proud of that.
fox_angry

@weeble @coolboymew I truly don't get it.

@weeble @coolboymew This is peak consumer. He should kill himself.

Gatekeeping is a thing
Tourists should be executed

@PurpCat @weeble @coolboymew I suspect you might not be too far off from the real reason these people are doing this.

@Remi @weeble @coolboymew you know this is unironic for many people
I got a furry to play games by telling him it had characters he could nut to

What pisses me off is that when some people get righfully called out for this and confessing "I'm not that interested in anime" they go all "well, it is what it is". What a bunch of retarded niggernerds

Dude, i started to find anime boring and i stopped watching

@Morghur @weeble @inertia I hate that so much

There's definitively a type of people who clearly overdosed, can't take it anymore, for whatever reasons, yet just won't fucking fuck off

You can see this on /a/ and other elite anime places "Bro this seasons sucks, like every seasons, but I'm only watching 2 shows, only the ones that has nothing but little girls in it" when we've been in an anime golden age for a few years now, or you can see the same shit in Resetera and co, the "urggh, gamers" bullshit

@weeble @coolboymew
To be fair, there is usually not that much content in a shounen, so you might as well skip it
Then again, you watch shounen for the fights, and if you are gonna skip those, might as well just not watch it altogether

@Kagekokoro @weeble if it's not your genre, you just simply watch something else

@DrRyanSkelton @weeble @coolboymew "My fellow anime fans, we must speed through the slow parts or anime will not survive."

@coolboymew @weeble @Morghur They would fuck off if there was a alternative identity for them to take. Imagine living your whole life as a weeb with posters, figurines, body pillows, tens of thousands of hours of shows watched.
An incredibly huge investment fallacy. It's inertia!

i just saw the video and what the actual fuck

@coolboymew @weeble In my personal leisure time, I have a unique approach to entertainment. I find myself immersed in the fast-paced world of anime, often opting to watch it at 5x speed to condense the viewing experience. Simultaneously, I indulge in the thrill of Minecraft parkour challenges, navigating intricate virtual landscapes with agility and precision. To add a touch of humor and variety, I enjoy the whimsical antics of Family Guy clips playing in the background, providing a lighthearted contrast to the intense focus required by the other activities. This eclectic mix of media allows me to unwind and engage with different forms of creativity and entertainment simultaneously.

@coolboymew @Kagekokoro @weeble Funny that no-one in this thread has mentioned One Piece and One Pace. One Pace is a version of One Piece with the filler time within episodes removed or shortened. It significantly improves the experience of watching it while making it quicker to watch (saves you something like 150 hours)

https://vid.puffyan.us/watch?v=n1z6umwBs5I

In the end It boils down to that. Its an identity to them and they cannot discard one small things where they invested part of their lives, even if they dont like It anymore.

In many cases i also think there are trendchasers and people with FOMO, but i think It has to do more with retardos latching to a fandoms looking for and identity rather than a community

@billiam @Kagekokoro @weeble I did catch up with them and it's not that cut down. One Piece literally has like 5 mins of recap sometimes and then recapping what just happened with another character in the middle of the ep and etc.

Completely different thing here

@coolboymew
I only fast forward the "previous episode" parts. Dude, I don't have a life, the previous episode happened an hour ago I still remember it fine.

The only things I watch normally on 2x speed are sports. Football, track and field, formula 1 etc are slow paced and the commentator is still very legible at 2x speed (unless it is a woman. For some reason women's voices don't work well with 2x speed in mpv). Ice hockey is better at 1x speed, because it is so fast paced.
@weeble

@coolboymew@shitposter.world @billiam@shitposter.world @Kagekokoro@bae.st I think even the faults should be seen as it part of the anime experience, but this is meant to be closer to the manga so this is different.

Shounens and some media can def have filler/padding but that's a conclusion someone comes to after watching something first. These ppl will do this with shows they never seen but even stuff they're only mildly interested in so they can force themselves to finish it.

@weeble @Kagekokoro @billiam it's not even meant to be "closer to the manga", I've seen it and they let the anime, be the anime

It's just that One Piece, instead of introducing a crazy amount of half filler, like Naruto did, it follows the anime, but extremely slowly with a crazy amount of time saving bullshit

@billiam @coolboymew @Kagekokoro @weeble oh I saw that on a torrent site and just assumed it was a silly typo

@Zergling_man @weeble they say they do this to stuff they care less about, fine, sure, whatever, but if I have to do this I'd rather just drop it

@coolboymew @weeble could be me watch with subs and dubs so i can read when i am half a wake

@weeble @coolboymew "I care about productivity"

I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with this if it weren't for my gut feeling that these are the same people who drive moral panics over tiddies and misogyny in anime

@coolboymew @Zergling_man @weeble well just like don't start arguments with people that actually did watch it

does this even qualify as gatekeeping it seems almost tautological

@sun @coolboymew @weeble It's gatekeeping attention whores.

@sun @coolboymew @Zergling_man @weeble its like me i watched gundam late at night all i remember one of the guys said to that other guy he was born in the wrong family i think and fedi this feddy that. and thinking the robot battles were cool and the main guy mom was freaking out because main guy shot a guy

@coolboymew and @weeble, I mostly don't watch anime because it's mostly just still frames with some interpolation in between, but I do rewatch movies in my collection quite often and 3x to 6x speed is pretty comfy when I wanna feel the vibe of a movie again.

@cnx@awkward.place @coolboymew@shitposter.world wtf does feel the vibe even mean? Just say your attention span is fried

@weeble @cnx I dunno man, sometimes I do feel like rewatching scenes from something, I have a few anime eps around for a few scenes I like. But I don't watch the scenes on fast forward, it's really weird, and I'm the one who's supposed to have ADHD

@weeble @cnx man, I remember the days of VHS, when you had to rewind that shit manually

@coolboymew @weeble @cnx You have adhd, they have tiktok brain. Big difference.

@coolboymew@shitposter.world @cnx@awkward.place I rewatch cool/impactful scenes all the time but that's diff from watching an entire movie on 3x speed.

@cnx@awkward.place @coolboymew@shitposter.world Also the point of the thread isn't just to shit on ppl who watch shit on 2x speed, but mainly how a growing number of ppl like this (who can't even bother to watch media as intended) want to engage with the fandom and shit up communities.

@susie @weeble @coolboymew Women just talk faster.
