the number one thing that turned me off about IRC was the inability to stop people from connecting using shitty mitm cloud web interface

@Moon If I can not download via XDCC through a IRC client then it is a trash IRC client. So right there with you on all of the shitty web clients.

@Moon@shitposter.club I mean I get why. There is really no concern of MITM attacks on the fediverse because 99% of conversations that happen here are public anyway.
If you use the fediverse for any sort of private conversation you really should be using something else.
On IRC however there's a lot more private activity going on on average. Maybe people have private groups or use it for private messaging so they expect some sort of protection against MITM.
