I'm still amazed that Game Freak gets away with releasing two versions of a PokΓ©mon game in current year. If it was even just EA doing this we'd have been hearing about it for months

@schappi Oh? I always thought that the two of them were fully different from each other

@solidsanek, I'm complaining they don't make 3 games as in the beginning.

@thenarrator It's a practice that worked in the past, but nowadays people call out anything where they feel like they're being tricked as a consumer (aggressive micro transaction practices, abuse of lootboxes, etc.) So it kind of surprises me that this is still a thing.

But at the same time I guess it's also much easier to transfer pokemons with each other than it used to

@solidsanek This time it is confirmed you can "switch" versions by using hex editing a value and bam it is the "other" version.

@solidsanek@outerheaven.club to play the "full" story you need to buy both AND THEN a third, digital-olnly game

@schappi What do you mean the full story? Does each game feel incomplete if you only play one of them?

@rain I think it makes sense to have a switch like this to make it easier to ship copies, but at the same time it does make it easier for emulators to run both versions smugmax

@solidsanek Exactly even more since the recent games are made in #Unity engine. They emulate more or less flawlessly lol

@solidsanek, I mean, I don't see it as being tricked, because people play only one of those games, so they could get a slightly different game for their own experience, right?

@thenarrator Yeah, and like I assumed it's even easier to share games between versions nowadays.

Back then I only knew a handful of people irl that played pokemon gen 3 and I was literally the only one with a transfer cable. It was more of a struggle back then to get transfers happening than it is now

@solidsanek@outerheaven.club so the base two games have two routes, like in a vn

you basically have to make a choice at one point and the choice is hardcoded if you have a physical cart

but to play the third game you need to have both editions, one physical and the other digital (or both digital)

@schappi @solidsanek At least the FE Fates routes are all unique experiences. I'll at the very least give it more credit then pokemon, even if the only FE Fates story I don't hate is Birthright's.

@solidsanek@outerheaven.club this is all stuff i read tho so take it with a pinch of salt

@schappi wait wait wait

This does change a few things. Both are required to be allowed to buy the third??

@schappi @solidsanek pretty sure you could buy the opposing route for a discount as DLC, $20, and I'm pretty sure you can start Revelations if its installed from a fresh save without having the other route installed.
