the people who will nag you about how linux is easy and simple and a drop-in replacement for windows, are the same people who use dwm and ed
@sfr@mk.nixnet.social I only think that GNU/Linux is simple and easy for new computer users who do not use Windows and are not in some proprietary software ecosystem.
That's usually where it goes wrong. People trying to get proprietary software working that they used to use on Windows and having a lot of trouble with that. If you just stick to the free software available in your distro's repository, everything will be fine, and you'll never even have to use a terminal.
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo NetBSD for your grandma
@sfr@mk.nixnet.social I thought we were talking about GNU/Linux.
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo well yes I was joking
but you're right that the people who use their computers the least will have less problems migrating
@sfr@mk.nixnet.social Like I'm sure gamers will have a hardest time having to configure Proton and Lutris to a run a lot of software not meant for GNU/Linux.
But like 90% of computer users only do browsing, chatting and emailing. I don't see how you would have any trouble doing those everyday tasks.
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo one thing I have noticed is that "Word" has become interchangable with "text editor", and a lot of people will not be convinced to use LibreOffice even if it supports the same file formats because it's different
@sfr@mk.nixnet.social The desktop version of Word has fallen out of flavor in the past few years. A lot of organizations are now using the web based version in Office 365 or Google Docs.
