I was walking through the kitchen appliance section of Walmart yesterday and noticed everything is a fucking air fryer now. Microwave: also an air fryer, toaster oven: also an air fryer, pressure cooker: air fryer, air fryer: also an air fryer. WTF

@astatine these whippersnappers don't know how to cook so they buy fansy shmansy machines like air fryers and sous vide things.

@triodug I'm not above kitchen gadgets: i have a forman grill and an instant pot. its just weird to see airs getting added on to everything.

@astatine I've got some gadgets as well but air fryers are getting pushed as like the be all end all of gadgets replacing conventional cooking.

@triodug yeah they seem to be a meme now. a couple of years ago it was instant pots that were the trendy thing

@triodug @astatine I will say the air fryer makes for a better replacement than the microwave when it comes to quickly heating frozen food.

@triodug @astatine sous vide means you get to cook meats without watching them. you can cook ribs overnight and sear them in a few minutes the next day

@ew @astatine imagine being such a nancy boy you can't just sit and watch some meats smh kids these days

@rain @astatine I already barely use my microwave so an air fryer would definitely be a good replacement. I'm mostly talking shit about people that use it for literally everything possible, and I've met a lot of people that do that.

@astatine @triodug i love love love instant pot its so convenient and lets me take cheap meat and make super tender stuff with it
i basically just make a ton of something, stick it in my fridge and then eat it over the course of a week so its like super low effort meal prep

@shibao @astatine yee I love the instant pot for making pulled pork and beef stew or chili. It's good for those looooooong cooks.

@triodug @astatine I mean I can, I choose not to because it tastes better, is more tender, and I don't need to watch it. you can waste your time however you like.

@ew @astatine
>Tastes better
>Is more tender
Sure thing kid

(Disclaimer I'm just busting your balls)

@triodug @astatine my fav instant pot recipe: https://damndelicious.net/2018/03/03/instant-pot-olive-garden-zuppa-toscana-copycat/
second favorite is instant pot baby back ribs, make them super tender then finish off bbq sauce coats in a normal oven and they're so good

@rain @triodug yeah my toaster has a convection/air fryer option and its great for frozen nugs and stuff like that

@triodug @astatine Oh yes I definitely understand. The last two air fryers I have owned came from my grandparents who go nuts of them but actually makes some pretty nice meals in them. I just get the "old models" and cook pizza rolls & dino nugz for my kids in them.

@triodug @astatine it does, it slow cooks inside its own juices that pool up in the bag

@ew @astatine I'd rather achieve the same tender meat with a slow smoke on the grill but that's because I enjoy wasting time cooking. Set it and forget it style cookery is just boring to me.

@triodug @astatine you can use the leftover juices for ramen broth too

@ew @astatine ramen broth is a bone based stock anyway isn't it? You're already gonna be spending a lot of time on it.

@shibao @triodug this recipe is one of my favorites. definitely not a healthy one though
