speaking of games that are just fucking bad, red desd redemption
holy shit, i know the r* formula is like this but it's so stupid, every mission is the same 3 or 4 events. strangers are great but when it's the same shitty missions i feel like i'm punished for interacting.
i guess i need something more challenging in my games, the story and environments have to be REALLY good for me to withstand shitty gameplay

@why Now this one I agree 1000% never have I fallen off a game so quick in my life. After a hour or two i just couldn't do it. Also heaven forbid if you do one thing out of line on a mission instant fail. Always felt like I was fighting the game more than playing it.

@why i dont understand why everyone circlejerks this game

They put the ending on a pedestal as though they've never played a good videogame before

@dielan i think it was just a timing thing, there was nothing like it on the market and r* was at peak popularity.

@dielan @why R* is the most overrated dev in history

Their claim to fame is pretty much having pioneered the empty open world genre along with the gangster theme being at a popularity high back then

Everyone I ever hear talk about it never has anything good to say about the actual game and missions

@coolboymew @dielan @why I dunno man, Red Dead II is my favourite game of all time.

@djsumdog @coolboymew @dielan @why yeah bully and gta aren't that great but red dead is pretty fucking good. Iirc they've made some other pretty good games before they got super popular too

@beardalaxy @coolboymew @dielan Also not sure if @why is talking about RD1 or 2 (I haven’t played 1). GTA3 was super unique for its time; not just because of all the Doom style content controversy, but the size/scale of the open world was a pretty big jump.

I never played GTA4, but I heard the amount of in-game content it had was kinda insane. I enjoyed GTA V. It was fun, and well constructed (and had recording breaking sales) but nothing that would put it in my top 10 list.

I will admit RD2 started off slow. By the first town, I was wondering if it was worth it, but I’m glad I stuck it out. The story progressed in really interesting ways. I liked the characters, the camp, and a lot of the side quests felt like they did world building instead of just being filler. I really felt for my character’s plight by the end. My 2nd favourite game of all time is FF7 (original), so I’m bias towards story in general.

@djsumdog @beardalaxy @coolboymew @dielan talking about 1, which i haven't finished. i haven't played 2, interested in it though.
