@thatbrickster@shitposter.club Crazy how people think this is amazing now while this was the normal accepted size of a phone like 6 years ago.

@jessica it did nothing wrong and didn't deserve to die

@SuperDicq Selective memory is a bitch like that. Narcissists want bigger screens to see themselves on, I want smaller ones so I can comfortably fit them in my pocket.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club My personal theory why smartphones are getting bigger is because the main market nowadays is boomers that otherwise have trouble operating such a small device with tiny text.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club And also because for a lot of people a phone has become their primary or sometimes even their only device. Some people get rid of their PCs and just get using only a phone.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club And yeah I'm in the same camp as you. I'm already on average using a desktop computer for 12 hours a day. I just a phone to be as small as possible to just have something to quickly read an email or text message on the go. I use my phone maybe 15 minutes a day in total.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club I was daily driving my HTC Desire S from 2010 for a few months a while ago. It was comfortable as fuck because it only has a 3.2 inch screen.

Eventually I opted to get a more modern phone instead simply because providers in the Netherlands do not support 3G any more which made me unable to use it without WiFi nearby, other than that it was completely fine.

@SuperDicq I should point out I don't believe people who want to see themselves are why we have bigger screens. I see bigger screens as a way to cover for the increased footprints of smartphones and call it 'progress'. I'd try a smart featurephone if they didn't cost as much as a used iPhone here.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club Currently I'm using a Fairphone 3, it's unfortunately too big for my liking, but the key selling point for this one for me is that it easily repairable, has 4G and official LineageOS support.

@SuperDicq If my Mi 5S held out another year I'd have got a Fairphone 4. The Pinephone wasn't as good as I thought it would be and I can't be arsed with the Pinephone Pro right now. I got a Mi 10 Lite last year and currently using it to write this. Custom ROM and 5G capable, I don't need another phone for a while.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club I dislike the Fairphone 4 because they took away the headphone jack.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club And yes I also own a Pinephone but I don't dare to daily it.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club Still like playing with it tho. Maybe one day.

@SuperDicq That took me aback. Maybe they couldn't secure the parts for its lifetime.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club I had a Mi phone before this as well and the USB port on it broke 3 fucking times after mere months of usage so after that I was kinda done with chinkphones.

@SuperDicq I must've been fortunate. Each time (Mi 5/5S/10 Lite) set me back £200 and have experienced zero build quality issues. Only complaint is the smooth back as it makes getting a case the only way to go.

@thatbrickster@shitposter.club Oh yeah I hate that too. I always like to use my phones without a case and Mi was the only phone I could not use without a case simply because the back was so smooth.

@thatbrickster @SuperDicq Same been using the RedMi Note 8 & 9 and aside from the smooth back the build quality is quite impressive. Same you had a negative experience.

@rain The Redmi 2 was my first Xiaomi phone. No custom ROMs led me to the main Mi line. Xiaomi retired the Mi brand semi-recently too.
